Did you like the Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown? Then you will also like Map of Bones by James Rollins. Secret societies, clues and symbols - and smart characters who know how to read the clues are all included in this exciting book.

I loved The Davinci Code, but I liked the first book even better. All of James Rollins’s books are fantastic…I’m reading the newest one, Black Order right now!

Just finished a book called Looking for Alaska. Has nothing to do with the state, Alaska is a girl, a girl who goes to a boarding school in Alabama. The story is told from the perspective of Miles “Pudge” Halter (an ironic nickname since he is rail thin). He becomes friends with Alaska, along with Chip “The Colonel”, Takumi and Lara. They pull pranks, cut class, study and participate in some marginally illegal activities. Then one night – a tragedy. How do you deal with love and loss? What is the purpose of life? What happens after we die? These are the questions the group now ponders. This book won an award for Excellence in Young Adult Literature, but beware there is some strong language in this book.

I just finished a book called Ninth Key. It was about a girl named Susannah who could communicate with the dead. She helped people who have died go on to the “after life” by finishing things that they were unable to finish before they died. This book is a part of a series. In this book Susannah moves to California with her mother and new stepdad. Her father is dead but she still communicates with him. She finds a boy in her room who died 150 years ago. A lady also comes to her room and yells at her to find a man named Red. She goes through dangerous tasks to find Red and it turns out that Red is not who she thinks he is. Soon things get out of control and she has to try and save her own life. This is a good book and the rest of the series were just as good. I highly recommend people who like mysterys read this.

A book i just finished rereading for the upteenths time Tithe by Holly Black. Its a book about a teenage girl named Kae who lives with her rock n’ roll mom in philidelphia after her mom’s bf tries to kill Kae’s mom the two of them move back in with Kae’s Grandmother. kae does everything she can to reaquaint herself with her imaginary friends who turn out to be real faeries, and need her to do a huge favor that could end up risking her life. Kae falls in love with a fae knight named Roiben. He dose everything he can to save her from all the trouble she gets into after discovering that she has more in common with the faeries than she first believed. If you like knitty gritty urban faery tales this has to be on the top of the list. Relise that not all faeries are glitter and pixie dust in a tutu.

the book I read is the lion and the witch inthe wardrobe it is a good book to read I would really like to some commets on the book it is a good book for christains and the book is a book that no better book in the world. The end of the book is not very important because it’s not interesting.

I finished reading the book, Icarus, by Russel Andrews. In all honestly, it was such a good book, I wish there was a sequel. It had everything I was looking for in a mystrey book.
It takes place in New York, where a boy named Jack is a witness to his mother’s death, where she was thrown from her 17th story work building. Ever since then, Jack has had a fear of balconys and heights. He grows up thinking nothing can ever be as bad as that, but he is wrong.
When he was in college, he met a woman named Caroline, and he instantly falls in love with her, and they eventually get married, regardless of Jack’s “ghetto” background, and Caroline’s rich childhood.
For a living, the couple opens a chain of restaurants, “Jacks”. On the opening night of a restaurant in Virginia, Caroline is murdered, and her diamond necklace is stolen. This is when Jack realized, things can be so much worse than what he ever imagined, but what was really interesting about Caroline’s death is she too was thrown from a window.
Jack instantly believes there is a connection between the two murders, but the police seem to think otherwise. Until a man named “Kid” comes around, he was sort of raised by Jack and Caroline, but he disappered one day out of anger. He returns hoping Jack will allow Kid to help him..(Jack was injured the night of Caroline’s murder). Jack agrees, and Kid eventually opens up to Jack, telling him what he has been doing with his life, since he has been gone.
You read that Kid has what he calls a “team” which was just four or five women he was seeing all at once, but he was afraid of all of them, and as you read on you find out why.
Kid had a best friend named Bryan, and when Kid returns the two meet up and they deside to ask for a loan from Jack, to open up their own gym. Jack thinks it is a bad idea considering there is a lot of gyms in the area, but recommends to Kid that he should go into the restaurant business.
Then one day, Kid is murdered. He is thrown off his apartment balcony. When Jack hears of this, he instantly once again makes a connection, but can never think of who can do this. The police try to say Kid’s death was a suicide because they found LSD in his system, but anyone who knew Kid whould know he would never commit suicide, or even take any form of drug.
Jack begins to investigate by himself, because he gets no help from the police. He finds out information on Kid’s “team” and meets them one by one in person, soon after all but one is murdered.
In the end Jack thinks he is falling in love with one of the member’s of Kid’s team named Grace, and one day when Jack and Grace are in Jack’s apartment, Bryan (Kid’s friend), breaks into the apartment, this is where we find out who the killer is.
I would say this is the most suspenseful moment in the whole book. Which is why I really enjoyed it because it kept me guessing the whole time. If you thought you had an idea of who the real murderer was, you were always prooved wrong, which kept me reading.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good thriller.

I read A Light in the Storm by Karen Hesse, it is about Amelia Martin, she is a teenager who has to watch over a light house. She likes the lighthouse owners son, Daniel, who is much older than she is. He eventually gets sent off to fight in the Civil War. Her mother becomes ill and ends up dying of a seizure. Daniel returns from war safely and Amelia and Daniel get married.

I just got done reading Flipped, it is pretty much just the two explaining their feelings for each other while they are growing up. It is a really good book.

Rachel asked me to come to this website and talk about a book I have read.
I just finished reading “Where the Red Fern Grows” I really enjoyed this book because it seemed like something I could relate to my own life and actually experience.
I would recommend it because it is just a good book for any animal lover and it will really make you appreciate the luxeries we take for granted everyday.

Cornelia won’t read outloud in her English class. She’s not stupid – she reads more than any other student in the class – but she stutters and is embarrassed to have the other kids hear her. And that is not the only problem in her life. Her mother’s new boyfriend wants them to move Vegas, alone, without Cornelia. Cornelia gets left behind at the home of her strange Aunt Agatha. There’s no coffee, no phone, no toilet! The first meal is a slice of homemade wheat bread with molasses, cheese and sassafras tea. Cornelia learns to live with all the strangeness, makes a new friend and discovers that she doesn’t have to hide because of her stuttering, she has much to offer those around her. Find out more about Cornelia in the book Tending to Grace by Kimberly Newton Fusco.

I am in the process of reading Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. This book is amazing I can’t wait to finish it. If you like murder, a secret society, and a little bit of a love story….Travel with Robert Langdon to Vatican City /Rome. It is keeping me on my toes.

The Davinci Code is next on my list.

Palmer are you liking his new book? Black Order

Rachel the book Icarus you read sounds really interest. On the edge of you seat kind of a read.

Melissa The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is a great read. I loved it. The movie was good but not as good as my own imagination. :)

Black Order is awesome…it deals with a fictional account of the experiments the Nazis performed during WWII…very timely considering my fall season with theater.

I love reading and am so glad there’s a place to get recommendations! Great idea! I’ll have to check out some of the books y’all have suggested. I’m going to put Icarus and Black Order on my list…

I read the Narnia series a few years ago and Melissa, you may like reading more about those characters in the sequels.

Has anyone read A Tree Grows in Brooklyn? I’m about a third of the way in and I’m not sure what to think. I keep reading though, because I keep wanting to know what this little girl is going to experience next. Her life is hard, but she’s so innocent that I’m not sure she understands just how difficult her life is. The author writes about tragedies in a very stark way, but then the next line is filled with poetic commentary on life and the struggles we find there. I’m intruiged for sure.

One of the two books I read by Lurlene Mcdanile -For Better, For Worse, Forever
April Lancaster, revcovering from the death of her fiance, and she feels a lone. Then Brandon comes into her life. Brandon is lonely and angry, he and April have a lot in common. They share many secrets. But April can not tell Brandon about her illness. When April’s medical problems suddenly come back, she must tell Brandon.

Its a good love story and to show you can still love

For you guys out there, Clive Cussler books are great – a ton of machismo and action. “Sahara” is a very good book, don’t judge it by the movie that was made from it. James Patterson and John Grisham are excellent authors for the male mind, also.

Dune by Frank Herbert
A great tale about man, monster, climate, and power. I first read this book when I was 14 and read it again this summer. A classic piece of sci-fi infused with the best elements of literature.

From the BOOK JACKET:
Set on the desert planet Arakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Muad’Dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family – and would bring to fruition humankind’s most ancient and unattainable dream. A blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction.”

I recently re-read a book called Sloppy firsts by Louise Rennison. its a really really great book. its totally LOL funny and touching. you totally feel what shes going through if you still in high school and if your out of school you totaly will remember what it was like. Full of teen love, and scarcastic humor…v. v. good

I read the book “The Rescue” by Nicholas Sparks. this is a good book to read if you have time and like to read about love stories. In the book their was a single mother trying to raise a child and one night they were headed home in a rain storm and crashed into a ditch and the boy had a hard time hearing and he got lost but one of the fireman on duty that night went looking for him and didnt give up until he found him. it took him all night. the fireman and the single mom eventually started dating.

Is there really such a thing as happily ever after? Not according to Just Ella by Margaret Peterson Haddix. Ella goes to the ball, gets swept off her feet by Prince Charming and is chosen to be his bride. Happily ever after? No! The Prince is boring, life in the castle is an endless round of lessons and proper behavior. Her only salvation is the young maid Mary and her tutor Jed. Ella wants to escape and go back to her regular life. Escape she does, in a rather disgusting way, and finds a life very different from any she had imagined.

I just finished reading the book, “The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.” It seemed based on a book for younger kids because the main character (Edward) is a china doll rabbit, but the lessons he has to learn relate to what we learn throughout life. Edward’s goal is to find love and be able to love back. It really is an interesting book and kind of makes you think.

I couldn’t put down The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks. Initially, I was hooked by the frantic search for a lost little boy with an imminent hurricane approaching. Well-rounded characters, heart-warming romance,on-the-edge-of-my-seat adventure, and a parent’s unyielding love for her child through hardships and sacrifices kept the pages turning. I’ll admit, it even made me cry (maybe I’m just a sentimental mushy parent). It even has a happy ending.
I had to try another Nicholas Sparks’; I’m in the middle of True Believers. A great small town setting, a little romance, psychic phenomenon, and a mysteriously sinking haunted graveyard make for a very interesting story. It hasn’t got me as emotionally hooked as The Rescue, but it is really good, and I hope it has a happy ending as well.

Great books based on REALLY weird ideas? When the Wind Blows and the next in the series – The Lake House by James Patterson. I’m not usually that into science fiction, but I got sucked right into these stories. High adventure, great romance, evil scientific experiments, and a bunch of really unusual little kids kept each (incredibly short) chapter flying by. I took these home for my daughter to read, but upon reading the first couple pages, she had to wait till I was done.

Have you ever wanted to start over, change who you are and how people see you? That is exactly what Jake does in Jake, Reinvented by Gordon Korman. He shows up at a new school with the best clothes, hosts THE Friday night parties that everyone wants to go to and has all the girls wanting to date him. But who is Jake really? Nothing can stay a secret for long.

I just finished reading “I am the Messenger” by Markus Zusak. This book was both funny and serious at the same time. It takes place in England, so it is full of British humor. It is about a man named Ed who mysteriously receives 4 playing cards, one for every suit, and they are all aces. He receives them in his mailbox, and they all have addresses or hints on them. It is Ed’s job to discover what needs to be fixed at these places and what can be done with certain people at those places. He not only realizes a lot about himself, but he makes a lot of friends along the way. Whether it be a preist or a old woman, he always discovers something. Overall it was a well written book at it makes you think.

I just picked up ‘The Rescue” that Nicholas Sparks wrote..it is already so good! Eeeee! I am excited!

I just finished reading The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks. Ms. Neal was totally right about this one. It truly is a great book. To me, it had every characteristic that I could want in a book, romance, a little mystery, and a little adventure and suspense in the beginning. I would recommend it to all the ladies out there who like a good love story.

Laura Reed writes and illustrates children’s books. She and her devoted husband, an art gallery owner, and their young son, live in a scenic coastal town. They are living a wonderful, idyllic lifestyle…until one New Year’s Eve night. Laura’s husband, Jimmy, is shot and killed in his bed, and grief-stricken Laura is the number one suspect. Among Laura’s supporters: Gary, a young wheelchair-bound painter, who seems to be a her secret admirer, and Ian Turner, a handsome man she knew as a child – she “coincidentally” meets again just when she needs him the most.
This is a very suspenseful, intriguing, and enjoyable story with a surprise ending.

The Book of Fred by Abby Bardi. Who is Fred??? Fred Brown is the founder of a religious community. Mary Fred Anderson lives in that community with her parents and brothers and sisters. They all have the name Fred, they all wear brown, they read the Book of Fred and they all believe the BIG CAT will be coming soon. Weird you say? Maybe, but not to Mary Fred. Two of her brothers die of illness and her parents are arrested for neglect. She ends up in a foster home and learns what it is like to be a “normal” teenager. One day while waiting for the school bus, there is a terrible accident. The life of Mary Fred changes dramatically again. She now has to decide what she really believes.

What would you wish for if you had three wishes? Bree Miller has that chance in the book Three Wishes by Barbara Delinsky. A surprise blizzard hits the small town of Panama, Vermont in October. A freak accident sends Bree to the hospital where she dies on the operating table. She goes to a “warm place” with a very bright light, but doesn’t get to stay. She wakes up with a memory of a mystical nonvoice granting her three wishes. What will her three wishes be? The first wish comes after spending a very cold night in a cold house where the furnace is on the fritz. Bree uses her first wish to wish for heat. Nothing happens so she goes to work. A few hours later she sees firetrucks racing towards her house. The heat she wished for has arrived – her house is on fire. She moves in with Tom Gates, the mysterious new man around town, who was the only witness to the accident and has been at Bree’s side since it happened. Two wishes remain and Bree is going to be very careful what she asks for. This is a romantic story and an inspiring story about wishes and dreams and all the things that life can bring.

I just got done reading The A-List by Zoey Dean. It is a Teen-Fiction. Really good book.It is about a girl who moves away from her friends and family to go live with her long lost dad. She wants to get a fresh start on life. I am reading the second one now.

I have recently read Twilight and New Moon by Stephanie Meyers…both excellent books…teen lit, but enjoyable for adults. I don’t want to give too much away, but it is an interesting love story with supernatural characters and a battle of good and evil…I read the second one, New Moon, in about six hours…it’s almost 600 pages and I couldn’t put it down.

I’m starting to read The Earth Abides. It is actually quite interesting, it is like one of those books that catches you from the beginning. The book is about the entire population catching some sort of disease. The main character, and a few others, are the only individuals on earth. They find eachother and have to repopulate the area. They stay through tough times and each character evolves through time. So far, i think this book is a must read and i’m sure it will get even better.

the congo

the congo is a good book that lets you really now about the congo and how smart gorillas really are and it really keeps your interest and does not let you down you will not want to put it down its so good!!

I’ve read a ton of those “teenager dramas”. They all sort of have the same “way” about them…but I suppose if you can relate, then it was worth the read. If you are into something Teen-esque (and preferably a girl) I highly recommend “TTYL” (Talk To Ya Later) by Lauren Myracle, and “Feeling Sorry For Celia” by Jaclyn Moriarty. They both take a different twist on story telling. “TTYL” is written all in Instant Messenger, which makes it not only quite an enjoyable read, but it goes fast for younger readers, seeing as how “IMing” has become a wave of the future in communication. “Feeling Sorry For Celia” on the other hand is composed of “letters”. You’d be surprised to see how well that form of communication carries the story so well and keeps you interested more than in a regular book. So if you want to try out something different, these are great!

Alli you are too funny! I totally agree with you. They are kinda the same after awhile. Right now I’m reading Angela’s Ashes by Frank McCourt. It’s about an Irish guy who was born in Brooklyn then when he is really young he moves to Limerick, Ireland. It follows his life and the author is the main character. It’s a true story. It is NOT AT ALL a teen book and it’s actually kinda depressing, but it’s really interesting at the same time.

Based on the recommendation from Palmer I am reading Black Order by James Rollins. So far it is a great book! There are so many characters in so many places, doing so many different things I am curious to see how it all comes together. I like the way he blends history with the supernatural to make an exciting story.

East of the Mountains
by David Guterson (author of Snow Falling on Cedars)

Dr. Ben Givens is a retired heart surgeon living in Seattle. Diagnosed with inoperable colon cancer, and having the vast medical knowledge of the stages of death he will endure, he is seriously considering taking “the easy way out.” Ben takes his hunting dogs and his grandfather’s rifle on a final quest to revisit his roots in the apple orchards of the Wenatchee area. The trials he faces on this journey teach him the “easy way” isn’t so easy at all. Facing one strange situation after another, he struggles physically and mentally to make it through. He reminisces on being a soldier in the war, why he became a doctor, and the love of his life. All the while, he struggles between choosing to face the pain and the fear of a long miserable death, and the ethical duty to his daughter and grandson, to his loyal hunting dogs, and to a promise he made to his wife on her deathbed.
The reader won’t put the story down until he knows what Ben ultimately decides to do.

I’ve been reading this book, False Memory, it is very good! I would highly recommend it to anyone that likes murder and mystery books.

you should read dracula because it is about a vampier that stucks blood out of living people. the undead is another for unclean. dracula is a vampire that hates garlic it kills him and that would be the end of the story. if you wuold like to know more you shuold read it . it’s scary (don’t read at night becuase it could worry you.)

i’m so excited for the next o so thrilling installment of the harry potter series. maybe in the next one i’ll see what you mean when you say that he’s evil…

Blog blog blog! I have a new series you should read! Sott Westerfeild’s three part series: Uglies, Pretties, and Specials are AMAZING! I actually have yet to read the last one…*palms sweat* I’m looking forward to reading it! They have story line that doesn’t relate to anything I’ve ever read before. I HIGHLY recomend them…hiiiiighly. *serious face* It all revolves around the future and how everything is avbout being pretty…or so you think!! CONSPIRACY! Aww, too bad, guess you’ll have to read them then….GO NOW!!! Goooo!
