In the book If I have a wicked stepmother, where’s my Prince? by Melissa Kantor, Lucy is living a real life fairy tale, but not the good kind. Her father remarries and moves her from San Francisco to Long Island with her wicked stepmonster and 2 bratty stepsisters. Her bedroom in the basement has no furniture and she has a list of chores a mile long. Then the dashing prince of Glen Lake High, Connor Pearson, notices Lucy and her life begins to change. She begins to believe in happily ever after. But is Prince Charming all he is cracked up to be? What about Sam Wolff, a fellow artist who doesn’t have much to say, but creates incredible works of art? Lucy finds out that happy endings don’t always end the way you expect.

I read Knife of Dreams, book 11 of the 12 book series Wheel of Time. Everything is falling into place for the last book. I don’t want to give away plot spoilers but will say that it was a good book. Robert Jordan has a very intrigueing writing style with a good blend of mystery, controversy and action. I encourage anyone with an intrest in fatasy to read this series making sure to start at the beggining.

I have just finished for the second time a book titled A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. The book is set in the 1890’s. Gemma Doyle is living in India with her family. On her 16th birthday she has a strange vision in which she sees her mother die. She wakes up to find her vision has come true. Gemma is then sent to England to attend the Spence Academy , a finishing school for fine young women. While at Spence she continues to have visions of the future and discovers her ability to connect with the supernatural. She joins with the school’s most powerful girls and learns of her connections with a shadowy group called the Order. They discover a magical realm that only they can enter, but possesion of magic isn’t always a positive thing. Gemma learns how powerful her gifts can be.

One of my favorite authors is Francesca Lia Block. Her books are page turning. My favorite book by her so far is Wasteland. It is about a brother (Lex) and sister (Marina) that are strangly attratced to eachother. In the middle of the book Lex kills himself, you never really understand why. So in the end Marina goes looking for her dad to tell him that his son had died and he tells her that Lex had been adopted when he was just a baby. So throughout the whole book the author gets you thinnking that they were related. It is very twisted but a great book. I would recommend it to anyone who loves books that keep you on the edge!

I just finished this book called The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. It is a story about an 11 year old black girls wish for love and acceptance. Set in Lorain, Ohio, It tells about Pecola Breedlove, the young girl who believes she is ugly. As she has grown up she gets into this mindset that if she had blue eyes like white people, she would be beautiful and her parents would love her. But after a devistating event she becomes even more alone and eventually loses touch with reality. As she learns the cost of actually getting what she wants.

Another book that i have read by Francesca Lia Block is called Weetzie Bat. This is book was stranger than strange! Weetzie is a girl who is best friends with Dirk which she thinks that she loves him but then he tells her that he is gay. So then they always go “duck hunting” which means boy hunting together. Dirk’s grandmother gives Weetzie a magic lamp, the genie gives her three wishes. She wishes for a cute house that Dirk and her can live in togehter, that Dirk finds a Duck, and that she finds her Secert Agent Man Lover. All of those wishes come true. Dirk’s grandmother dies and gives them her house, Dirk finds the love of his life named Duck, and Weetzie find a handsome young man named Secert Agent Man Lover. They all lived in Dirk’s grandma’s little house. Weetzie wanted to have a baby with her lover but he didn’t so she had one with Dirk and Duck. Her lover got mad and left. He found someone when he was gone to but didn’t feel anything foe her just did stuff cause he was mad. So when he came back a crazy lady came to the door and said that she wanted to speak to Matt and Weetzie didn’t know a Matt so she said there is no one here with that name sorry. The witch lady said some crazy spell and that he will be sick by tonight. By the night her lover was coughing almost dieing it was so bad! The next morning she stoped by again her lover opened the door and talked to the lady because his name was really Matt just no one knew that. The witch lady said that she had his baby and that she needed money for an abortion. He gave her money. But in the next 9 months the door bell rang and a purple eyed baby was on there door step and it was the Witch Baby. They even called it Witch Baby.

The book i read was Go Ask Alice. It’s a story about a girl who begins hanging out with the wrong crowd, and gets into some really bad drugs. She pulls out of it a few times, but relapses. She loses most her friends, and her family is really worried about her. She runs away and tries to make a life for herself, but at such a young age it becomes really hard, and not what she expected. She finally decides to stop completely and moves back with her family. After a couple weeks of being clean she ends up in an Insane Aylm…

I would reccomend this book to teenagers.
It shows the long term effects and what drug addictions can really do.

Rebel angels by Libba Bray is the second book in the Gemma Doyle trilogy. At the end of the first book magic had been unbound in the realms and became available for all in the realms to use. This has an unsettling effect on the inhabitants of the realm and it is up to Gemma to bind the magic again. She is on Chrismas holiday from Spence Academy, but meets up with Felicity and Ann in London. They are able to spend time in the realms searching for the mysterious Temple that will give Gemma the power to bind the magic. Gemma’s greates foe, Circe, is also seeking the Temple. It soon becomes clear to Gemma that she can trust no one but herself in this quest.

Have you ever wondered how your life would change if there was a natural catastrophe? Life as We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer will get you thinking. Miranda is a typical teenager; her parents are divorced, she lives with her mom and two brothers, and her father and his new wife are expecting a baby. The big news is that a meteor is supposed to hit the moon, and everyone will be able to see it with the naked eye. So, in the middle of everyday life, everyone in the world goes out on their front lawns as if expecting to watch a fireworks show…
…but when the meteor hits the moon, the impact is greater than anyone expected! Instead of being a really cool show in the sky, the moon gets knocked much closer to the earth, setting off tsunamis and earthquakes and volcanoes. Immediately, Miranda’s mother tries to stock up on supplies just to survive, preparing for the worst, but really unsure what to expect. Miranda is afraid for her family, her friends, her neighbor; afraid of how her life will change. Formatted as a diary of a 16 year old girl, this is a story of understanding how dependent we are as a society on material possessions and modern conveniences, and how, when faced with huge adversity, we can find the strength to survive and learn what is really important in life.

Scott Westerfeld has come out with a 4th book in his Uglies trilogy (yes, explain that???). This book is called Extras. Aya Fuse is the main character in this book. Her world is ruled by her popularity ranking. Everyone is connected by a network system that keeps track of how many times a person’s name is mentioned. If you are very popular you go to the top of the list, are invited to fabulous parties and everyone is your friend. Aya finds out about a group of girls who have an incredible secret. Sharing that secret will put her at the top of the popularity list. As Aya tries to infiltrate this group and “kick” their secret out to the rest of the world she runs into more than she bargained for. Scott Westerfeld has created a fascinating alternate world of high tech and adventure.

Where do you go when you die? The book Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin gives an answer to that question. Liz gets hit by a taxi while riding her bike and dies. She finds herself on a boat heading to Elsewhere. What is Elsewhere? It is where you go when you die and you live your life in reverse until it is time for you to be born again. Liz is not happy to end her life at 15. She will never get her driver’s license, go to prom or college, never get married or have children. Can she adjust to a life that makes her grow younger instead of older?

Cut by Patricia McCormick is about a young girl named Callie. She is staying at a residential treatment called Sea Pines, which the girls staying there call “Sick Minds.” Callie is there for the self-inflicted wounds on her wrists. Other girls are there for various reasons. Some are overweight, some are severely underweight, and some dabble in drugs. They all have counseling sessions in groups and alone with a counselor. But Callie won’t speak. She begins to wonder if she even could say anything if she tried. If she found her voice, would she be able to help fix her problem? That’s for you read and find out yourself.

The book i am leaving a comment about is called Notorious by Cicily VonZiegesar. The main character in this book is a girl named Jenny Humphrey. She comes to Waverly Academy because she got kicked out of her private school. When she arrives there is no more rooms so she has to room with the two most popular girls in school. This book was really interesting and keeps a readers interest. If you are a girl who likes to read i would strongly suggest this book to you.

This book that i read is called P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern. Its a story about a recently widowed woman, Holly, in her late 20’s she lost the love of her life, Gerry, to a brain tumor. Before Gerry left he told her he had written a list of all the things he has wanted to do before he died. Holly’s birthday is coming up and she recieves a letter and a tape of Gerry telling her through out the course of time she is going to be recieving gifts and letters from him! so she gets all these letters and presents. And the rest is for you to find out.!!! But what i can say is the book is very heart renching, tear jerking, and a fun loving story you will fall in love with this book.. also if you get the chance to see the movie i suggest you do! i cried! ALOT! the book is just as good!!

I love reading books in a series. I think its just a way to make good books last longer and one series i found and really liked is the Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfeld. Its about this girl named Tally in a futuristic world where everyone is the same. When you reach a certain age you undergo a surgery that takes away any uniquness you had and makes you beautiful. Tally is one who finds out that maybe following the crowd isnt the best thing. These books are all about her transformations through surgery and maturity.

The wizards first rule is one of the best books i have ever read! If you love adventure/ mysterious, you will love this book. Through out the entire book the auther keeps you on the edge and guessing. All sorts of forshadowing and secrects waiting to be revealed in every page. Richard is a simple woods man living a simple life cut off from the real world just out side his home of westland. After the murder of his father all sorts of new and strange events and creatures start to fill richards life. He finds a new world filled with magic and things he couldnt even imagen. He also comes to find he is the key to stopping an sidistic wizard who tries to rule over all. I suggest this book to anyone that would be willing to read it.

We are all welcome here by Elizabeth Berg is a story of a girl being raised by a mother with polio. Her mother is paralyzed from the neck down, and spends most of her time in an iron lung. It is set in the 60’s and that was how polio was dealt with at that time. Diana and her friend Suralee like to put on plays for the neighborhood and spend much time planning and rehearsing for these plays. Diana is a good kid, but if she does need punishment the only thing her mom can do is bite her finger. The caretaker for Diana’s mom is a black woman named Peacie. She and her boyfriend are involved with the civil rights movement of the time and you learn about some of the things that happened in the fight for civil rights. There is even an Elvis sighting in the book! It is a good story and helps you to understand life from many different perspectives.

An old one, but a good one, is the book The Dry Divide by Ralph Moody. He also wrote the book Little Britches. In this book he is in Nebraska and has hired on to work for an onery old farmer named Myron Hudson. Ralph “Bud” has just turned twenty and has only a dime in his pocket. Through a series of events Hudson is killed and Ralph ends up temporarily taking over Hudson’s farm. By the end of the book Ralph has purchased horses, wagons and harness and put together his own business hauling wheat for the harvest. He is able to turn a group of misfit workers into a first rate harvesting crew and put over $1000.00 in his bank account. This book is set in 1919 and Ralph Moody’s writing style brings to life the sounds, smells and experiences of this time in his life.

Khaled Hosseini, author of the Kite Runner, has written a second book titled A Thousand Splendid Suns. It is the story of survival in the country of Afghanistan. The book is centered around two women whose lives cross paths during three decades of Afghan history. They live thru the tragedy of war, loss of loved ones and struggle to survive the daily life in a violent country. It is striking glimpse into the lives of women who live dramatically different than women in the United States. You will appreciate the circumstances of your own life after reading the horrors these women are subjected to.
