Khaled Hosseini, author of the Kite Runner, has written a second book titled A Thousand Splendid Suns. It is the story of survival in the country of Afghanistan. The book is centered around two women whose lives cross paths during three decades of Afghan history. They live thru the tragedy of war, loss of loved ones and struggle to survive the daily life in a violent country. It is striking glimpse into the lives of women who live dramatically different than women in the United States. You will appreciate the circumstances of your own life after reading the horrors these women are subjected to.

An old one, but a good one, is the book The Dry Divide by Ralph Moody. He also wrote the book Little Britches. In this book he is in Nebraska and has hired on to work for an onery old farmer named Myron Hudson. Ralph "Bud" has just turned twenty and has only a dime in his pocket. Through a series of events Hudson is killed and Ralph ends up temporarily taking over Hudson's farm. By the end of the book Ralph has purchased horses, wagons and harness and put together his own business hauling wheat for the harvest. He is able to turn a group of misfit workers into a first rate harvesting crew and put over $1000.00 in his bank account. This book is set in 1919 and Ralph Moody's writing style brings to life the sounds, smells and experiences of this time in his life.

We are all welcome here by Elizabeth Berg is a story of a girl being raised by a mother with polio. Her mother is paralyzed from the neck down, and spends most of her time in an iron lung. It is set in the 60's and that was how polio was dealt with at that time. Diana and her friend Suralee like to put on plays for the neighborhood and spend much time planning and rehearsing for these plays. Diana is a good kid, but if she does need punishment the only thing her mom can do is bite her finger. The caretaker for Diana's mom is a black woman named Peacie. She and her boyfriend are involved with the civil rights movement of the time and you learn about some of the things that happened in the fight for civil rights. There is even an Elvis sighting in the book! It is a good story and helps you to understand life from many different perspectives.

The wizards first rule is one of the best books i have ever read! If you love adventure/ mysterious, you will love this book. Through out the entire book the auther keeps you on the edge and guessing. All sorts of forshadowing and secrects waiting to be revealed in every page. Richard is a simple woods man living a simple life cut off from the real world just out side his home of westland. After the murder of his father all sorts of new and strange events and creatures start to fill richards life. He finds a new world filled with magic and things he couldnt even imagen. He also comes to find he is the key to stopping an sidistic wizard who tries to rule over all. I suggest this book to anyone that would be willing to read it.

I love reading books in a series. I think its just a way to make good books last longer and one series i found and really liked is the Uglies trilogy by Scott Westerfeld. Its about this girl named Tally in a futuristic world where everyone is the same. When you reach a certain age you undergo a surgery that takes away any uniquness you had and makes you beautiful. Tally is one who finds out that maybe following the crowd isnt the best thing. These books are all about her transformations through surgery and maturity.

This book that i read is called P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern. Its a story about a recently widowed woman, Holly, in her late 20's she lost the love of her life, Gerry, to a brain tumor. Before Gerry left he told her he had written a list of all the things he has wanted to do before he died. Holly's birthday is coming up and she recieves a letter and a tape of Gerry telling her through out the course of time she is going to be recieving gifts and letters from him! so she gets all these letters and presents. And the rest is for you to find out.!!! But what i can say is the book is very heart renching, tear jerking, and a fun loving story you will fall in love with this book.. also if you get the chance to see the movie i suggest you do! i cried! ALOT! the book is just as good!!

The book i am leaving a comment about is called Notorious by Cicily VonZiegesar. The main character in this book is a girl named Jenny Humphrey. She comes to Waverly Academy because she got kicked out of her private school. When she arrives there is no more rooms so she has to room with the two most popular girls in school. This book was really interesting and keeps a readers interest. If you are a girl who likes to read i would strongly suggest this book to you.

Cut by Patricia McCormick is about a young girl named Callie. She is staying at a residential treatment called Sea Pines, which the girls staying there call "Sick Minds." Callie is there for the self-inflicted wounds on her wrists. Other girls are there for various reasons. Some are overweight, some are severely underweight, and some dabble in drugs. They all have counseling sessions in groups and alone with a counselor. But Callie won't speak. She begins to wonder if she even could say anything if she tried. If she found her voice, would she be able to help fix her problem? That's for you read and find out yourself.

Where do you go when you die? The book Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin gives an answer to that question. Liz gets hit by a taxi while riding her bike and dies. She finds herself on a boat heading to Elsewhere. What is Elsewhere? It is where you go when you die and you live your life in reverse until it is time for you to be born again. Liz is not happy to end her life at 15. She will never get her driver's license, go to prom or college, never get married or have children. Can she adjust to a life that makes her grow younger instead of older?

Scott Westerfeld has come out with a 4th book in his Uglies trilogy (yes, explain that???). This book is called Extras. Aya Fuse is the main character in this book. Her world is ruled by her popularity ranking. Everyone is connected by a network system that keeps track of how many times a person's name is mentioned. If you are very popular you go to the top of the list, are invited to fabulous parties and everyone is your friend. Aya finds out about a group of girls who have an incredible secret. Sharing that secret will put her at the top of the popularity list. As Aya tries to infiltrate this group and "kick" their secret out to the rest of the world she runs into more than she bargained for. Scott Westerfeld has created a fascinating alternate world of high tech and adventure.
