One of my favorite authors has always been Jodi Picoult. At the beginning of this school year I found one of her books that I surprisingly haven’t read….Salem Falls. All of her books seem to deal with the legal system in some way, so in order to enjoy most of her books you have to start becoming familiar with this idea…but don’t worry she explains it in full detail how everything is done. Her books have soo many different characters in them sometimes it hard to keep them staight, but it also makes the book more enjoyable so you don’t get bored with the same people over and over. Salem Falls deals with the struggle of a man’s life going from great to bad to worse. He was an attractive history teacher and coach at an all girls school and he loved his job…but then one teenage girl writes about him sexually in her journal and his life ends as he knows it. After getting out of jail his life starts to go back to a normal routine, but before he knows it four more teenage girls come along and he once again has to prove his innocence over the same crime that he never did to begin with!

My favorite author of all time is Ellen Hopkins who is the author of Crank, Impulse, Glass, Burned, Identical and Tricks. Some of the things she writes about are very gruesome but it gives real perspective on issues that most people prefer not to think about. I think these books are great for Teenagers because it takes something most of us can relate to and takes it to the extreme. Ellen does not try to glamorize things like drug abuse and parties , she tries to show the bad things that can happen when you make irresponsible decisions. My favorite book from Ellen Hopkins is Identical which tells the story of two young girls who are believed to have the perfect life. Their mother is a governor and from the outside everything seems great but you soon realize their family is full of heartbreak and corruption. I would highly recommend this book.

One of my favorite authors is L.A. Meyer who is also the author of sever books in the Bloody Jack series. He has a very amazing way of capturing the reader of his books. Some may be very diturbing but others are very ironic and interessting. His books are very popular in eastern area of the United States and England. That’s also where his book series takes place. Louis (L.A.) books are about a girl who’s parents had died of sickness along with her sister and she was caught up with a gang in England. Where she begged for food and pennies and stole from bakeries. then she took the chance and became a british naval officer. she started as a ship’s boy then a midshipmen the leitenent then eventually a captian of her own ship soon after she was wanted for piracy. She then moved back to Boston in the year of 1807. In those years women were not allowed on ship’s and were looked down upon girls with wanton ways. Louis made a very good point by expressing his beliefs about womens rights. The books he writes are truly extra ordinary and everyone should give them a chance and take their time to read them I’m sure you’ll all be very surprised!

Briar Rose by Jane Yolen was written in response to a challenge from Terry Windling to publish a series of novels based on classic fairy tales. Jane chose the story of Sleeping Beauty, but her novel would be set in modern America and in Poland during World War II. From the introduction of the book “Later, Jane reflected that Briar Rose was one of the hardest books she’d ever written, for its research took her straight to the heart of the darkest days of World War II. When the book’s young heroine, Becca Berlin, is compelled to travel to Poland to find the truth in the briars of her grandmother’s stories, it’s a harrowing (and ultimately healing) journey, for Becca and readers alike.” A powerful story that I highly recommend!

I have never read any other books by Ellen Hopkins but everyone was always saying they are a really good read. I read Identical, which ended up being a really good book, i wasn’t thinking it was going to have a story lined to it because of the way it is written but it did. I have come to discover that Ellen Hopkins is one of my new favorite authors. Identical was about a young girl that was a twin and when her twin sister dies in a car accident she takes on both personality’s and the book spends its time in very creative writing talking about how many struggles come in her life because of her multiple personality’s. All together this was a really great book and i look forward to reading the rest of her series.

Another great book that has to be read by all is call To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. This is a touching story that had to deal with racism because the father of the two main characters is a lawyer defending a black man in the 1900′s…ya…not an easy task to accomplish. While he is trying his best to win the trial there are many mini conflicts happening at the same time within his family. Amazingly is turns out that in all the mix of these events the family is still able to stay together and grow closer. Scout and Jem are the main characters and they have to lean and grow up in these hard times, a lot of the time, alone because of what their father does. These kids have to understand that their father is in a tough situation and he can’t always be there for them. As more ppl come into their lives and others leave these kids are maturing more every year by just understanding what is going on. In the end this family has to join together, alone with the town, to conquer some hard events and rude ppl to achieve what is most important to them.

Another great book is Crank by Ellen Hopkins. The main charecter in this book is a young girl names Kristina who goes from being a good student from a middle class family to a drug addict living in the slums of Las Vegas. Kristina first becomes addicted to drugs as a result from visiting her low life father who condones her irresponsible behaviors. After Returning home Kristina needs her Drug fix and in trying to do so she becomes tangled within a mess of bad people. One of which , brandon, rapes her and gets her pregnant. Kristina doesnt know what to do because she is in love with someone else.

The Goddess of the Night is the fisrt in the Daughters of the Moon series. Vanessa, Catty, Serena, and Jimena are all daughters of the moon. They all have special gifts, and they all have to fight an evil force called the Atrox. Vanessa is being followed by them when Catty is kiknapped by the Follwers (Atrox wannabees). Together the rest of the daughters must find Catty before it’s too late because without her the Atrox will take over and the world as they all know it will be destroyed.
